About the joint inspections
Five inspections took place between January and February
2007.
The joint methodology was designed to improve performance
and reduce the demands placed on councils and PCTs by:
- carrying out a risk assessment before an inspection to evaluate
information that is already available
- sharing initial findings with councils and PCTs, and involving
them in developing the fieldwork part of the inspection
- targeting the areas where we need better information during the
fieldwork
- retaining a focus on outcomes for people who use services
- producing shorter reports more quickly.
The joint work involved staff from each commission getting
to know more about the different approaches to assess performance
in councils and PCTs.
Staff also looked at how an inspection contributes to
this.
The Healthcare Commission selected specific services
commissioned by PCTs to feature in these inspections.
The joint inspection teams, which also included
Experts by experience, have provided feedback to councils and
PCTs and have produced one joint report for each council
area.
