Helping children by supporting their parents
13 August 2007
A new guide aims to promote children’s welfare by encouraging
councils to commission good support services for disabled
parents.
The guide, published by the Social Care Institute for Excellence
(SCIE), is based on the belief children's needs are usually best
met by their parents.
Local councils and care services can help achieve this by
providing specialised support to parents who are disabled or have a
serious illness.
The guide encourages children's and adults' services to work
together. It will be of interest to adult social services staff who
commission support for disabled parents and service providers.
