Thematic inspections
These will focus on a theme. For example, we might
look at how medication is managed, or have a theme on
nutrition.
Our findings will go towards a national report but you will also
receive an individual report for your service.
We have carried out two thematic inspections since we introduced
them in 2006.
The first of these looked at the information given to people to
help them choose the right care home and whether they knew what to
expect when they moved in.
The findings of these thematic inspections contributed to the
report on
fair contracts for older people that we published in autumn
2007.
We have recently carried out thematic inspections on the care
that people with dementia receive in care homes. We will publish
our findings in 2008.
Frequency
We intend to continue to inspect a sample of care services
against specific themes.
We are planning our third sample of thematic inspections next
spring.
