What happens next
Once you have filled in your application forms, please send them
and all the relevant documents to your regional registration
team.
Once we receive your application
Once we receive your application, we will:
- Review your application and all the enclosed information. If
any information is missing, we will return your application to you
with a letter explaining what we need.
- If your application and supporting information is complete,
process the registration fee (or fees). If you do not pay the
correct fees in full, we will return your application and fees to
you.
- Review all of the information you provide and ask for your
professional references. We normally need to receive these within
10 working days. If we do not receive them, we will tell you. It is
your responsibility to make sure that your
referees send us the references we ask for.
- Contact you to arrange an interview and, where
necessary, a visit to your service (in the case of care
homes). In most cases, we will also ask you to fill in a
questionnaire to help both yourself and us to prepare for the
interview.
Interviews
The interview is designed to assess your 'fitness' as defined in
the regulations. (See our regulations page for more details).
If you are an individual, someone put forward as a 'responsible
individual' or a partner, the law says you must:
- be honest, of integrity and be of good character (this means
that you have to be honest, reliable and trustworthy)
- be physically and mentally fit to provide the service.
If you are managing the service, the law
says you must:
- be honest, of integrity and be of good character
- have the appropriate qualifications, skills and experience
necessary to manage the service
- and be physically and mentally fit enough to do so.
When assessing this we will look at the size of your service,
its statement of purpose and the number and needs of the people who
will use the service.
Site visits
If you want to run a care home, we will visit the premises to
assess whether the environment and facilities will meet the needs
of the people who will use your service.
We will use your statement of purpose, the relevant regulations
and national minimum standards (specific to your service) as the
basis for our assessment.
If you want to run an agency or an adult placement scheme
we will not automatically visit your service during the
registration process but may decide to do so when assessing all the
information you have provided.
