Services we register and inspect
We register and then inspect the following types of service:
- care homes that provide personal care or nursing care (or
both)
- adult placement schemes
- domiciliary care agencies (often known as home care
agencies)
- nurses agencies.
All children’s services have now been transferred to Ofsted.
There are two exceptions:
- domiciliary care services used by childen and young people
- further education colleges registered as care homes
(also known as independent specialist colleges).
It is a criminal offence to run one of the
above services unless we have received and granted (approved) an
application for registration.
