Safeguarding adults
29 August 2007
Safeguarding adults work aims to help people to live a life that
is free from abuse and neglect. It also helps to maintain good
health and well being. It includes, but is not limited to,
arrangements for responding to allegations of abuse.
Local councils have a responsibility to set up
multi-agency procedures by following the
Department of Health guidance No secrets.
We have an important role to play in these arrangements for the
social care services that we regulate.
We have agreed a protocol with the Association
of Chief Police Officers and the Association of Directors of Adult
Services.
The protocol sets out how we work with other agencies to make
sure people who use care services are safeguarded from abuse.
Protocol guidance
Download the protocol guidance and the two forms for local
councils and CSCI staff below.
Form 1
This is the form our staff will send to the local council, to
pass on relevant details about the alleged abuse.
Councils will use the information to decide
whether the alert is accepted as a referral, which will be dealt
with under the local multi-agency procedures.
Form 2
This is the form our staff will use to give multi-agency
strategy meetings the relevant information held by CSCI.
This information will assist a council in
planning and chairing a safeguarding assessment strategy discussion
or meeting.
