Criminal Records Bureau checks
Updated 26 January 2007
Most staff who work in services regulated and inspected by CSCI
are required by law to get checks from the Criminal Records Bureau
(CRB).
The CRB checks provide important protection for the people who
are cared for by the staff who work in these services.
The requirements for the level of check vary depending on the
service and the job role.
About the guidance – updated 26/01/07
CSCI revised and updated its CRB guidance for service providers
and CSCI staff in January 2007.
There are some significant changes from
previous guidance:
- Clarification of the supervisory arrangements where a
domicilary care worker with a clear POVA First check, starts work
before receiving a full CRB check
- The addition of a new table within appendix 1 describing the
level of checks required by adoption services, go to appendix 1 at
the bottom of the page.
- An amendment to the appendix 1 table describing the level of
check required by adult members of the foster parent's
household, go to appendix 1 at the bottom of the page.
- Explanation of the circumstances whereby we will exercise the
discretion to accept a previous CRB check countersigned by us for a
new manager's application or responsible individual.
