Dame Denise Platt DBE

Chair

Dame Denise Platt

Dame Denise was Chief Inspector of the Social Services Inspectorate 1998-2004, and Director for Children, Older People and Social Care Services at the Department of Health 2001-2003.

Dame Denise was also Head of Social Services at the Local Government Association and Director of Social Services at the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

Paul Snell

Chief Inspector Paul Snell

Paul Snell was appointed Chief Inspector in August 2006. Prior to this he was our Business Director for Inspection, Regulation and Review and a member of the senior management board.

Paul was previously Director of Social Services for Nottingham City Council where he established the new social services department. He also acted as Director of Housing and Acting Chief Executive.

John Knight

John Knight

John Knight has extensive personal experience of using social care services.

His professional knowledge has been gained through a career in local government, the Department of Health and as Head of Policy with the Leonard Cheshire Foundation.

Professor Jim Mansell

Commissioner

Jim Mansell

Jim Mansell is Professor of Learning Disability in the Tizard Centre at the University of Kent.

A pioneer of deinstitutionalisation and community living, he is a trustee of United Response, a disability and mental health charity.

He was a member of the National Care Standards Commission.

Olu Olasode

Olu Olasode

Olu Olasode is a public service productivity and strategic finance consultant, and chief executive of TL First Consulting.

He is a non-executive director of Bromley Primary Care Trust and also chairs the General Performance Panel of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's Beacon Council Panel.

Peter Westland CBE

Peter Westland

Peter Westland was formerly Director of Social Services for the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.

He was previously with the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) since its inception in 2001, but now represents the Commission for Social Care Inspection which replaced the NCSC in 2004.

He is a member and former Chair of Action on Elder Abuse, a national voluntary organisation.

Beryl Seaman CBE

Commissioner

Beryl Seaman

Beryl Seaman is a former Chair of the South Yorkshire Probation Board and the Probation Boards Association.

Her background is as a social worker in children's and adults' services, and she has been a magistrate since 1986.

She serves as a Commissioner with the Legal Services Commission, and is a member of the Interim Strategy Board set up to establish the new Ofsted.
