Wendy's story

29 June 2007
We asked for your stories of good social care services that have
improved the lives of people who use them.
Wendy's story
Wendy enjoys chairing the monthly meetings at her care home
for people with a physical disability in the South of
England.
Read her story
"I came to my care home to learn new skills and to become
more independent.
"I take part in drama, dance, art and life skills
and I can now ask my carers what I want with full
confidence. I know that I am now in control of my own
independence."
Growth in confidence
"My growth in confidence has helped me develop as a person in
many ways.
"I have interviewed new members of staff, and recently chaired
one of our monthly meetings to discuss how the centre is run.
"We call these client forums.
"We used the client forums to have our say and feel fully
involved in the running of the centre.
"I try to make sure that clients and staff are happy, and that
the centre can run smoothly with maximum client input!"
Helping people to live independently
"I have just moved to our training flats. I am learning a lot
and am enjoying it very much.
"The flats are about developing life skills and truly preparing
people for living independently.
"I work with a professional occupational therapy team who
support me to live my life as I like."
