Quality ratings

We publish a quality rating for each care home and care service to make it easier for you to compare the quality of different services.

What are quality ratings?

We want to be able to tell people simply and clearly how well a registered service is doing against national standards. So we have introduced quality ratings to indicate whether a care home or care service is 'excellent', 'good', 'adequate' or 'poor'.

Following a key inspection for a care service we will give them stars to show how good they are. The more stars we give them, the better we think they are.

So if we give:

  • 3 stars 3 Stars - this means it is excellent
  • 2 stars 2 Stars - this means it is good
  • 1 stars 1 Stars - this means it is adequate
  • 0 stars 0 Stars - this means it is poor.
