Our study is based on a special inspection of 100 care homes
where inspectors used a new observational tool to gather
evidence.
This Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI) was
developed in partnership with the University of Bradford. It
captures the experience of people who have great difficulties in
communicating their feelings and views.
SOFI gets beyond the surface of routine care practice to
understand people's well-being and how staff relate to them.
