In focus: Highlight of the day
13 March 2006
Read our report on how to improve meals in care homes, and
get advice for service providers and examples of good practice.
The report, called Highlight of the day?, finds
that 83% of care homes are meeting national minimum standards for
meals.
However, a significant minority, 1 in 6, are not up to
scratch.
The report gives clear advice on what care homes need to do to
improve the quality of meals and mealtimes for their residents.
Care homes that meet the standards typically have enough staff
who are properly trained and managed to provide a positive
experience for their residents at mealtimes.
CSCI's Chair Dame Denise Platt welcomed the new report, which is
the first in a series of bulletins focusing on different national
minimum standards.
Dame Denise said: "The importance of the quality of meals has
been given a lot of publicity over the last year.
"This bulletin is designed to help service providers who need to
improve to learn from those who are already performing well."
